DAR GAÏED ain draham

This guest house which has just opened in Nabeul after several years of restoration work, quite simply fascinated us. And it is by far one of the most beautiful guest houses in Tunisia because of its incredible architectural beauty, its history, its sublime patio, and its comfortable suites (air conditioning, heating, cable TV, bathrooms with bathtub…) and cosy, with a special mention for the decoration by the talented designer Philippe Xerri (Rock the Kasbah). For the record, “Dar El Gaïed” is a vast residence in the center of the city of Nabeul acquired by Caïd Ahmed El Maâmouri at the beginning of the last century (formerly called Villa Marine).

It is currently the property of his grandson Doctor Montassar Maâmouri who recently undertook there, with the help of the French designer Philippe Xerri and the Tunisian architect Youssef Hakima, major renovation works respecting its orientalized colonial stamp of the first half of the twentieth century. It has a large garden enclosed by a high wall which gives it the air of Moroccan riads. And a gorgeous pool sits in the center near a lavish bar. The house itself offers a living space strongly steeped in culture, in particular through a permanent exhibition of original elements inherent in the architecture of the building, old ceramics fully respected by the restoration.

A rich library of very varied Arabic and French books collected over the century is also available to customers. The same will apply to the collection of porcelain painted by the hands of the artist, daughter of the caïd Madame Sara Maâmouri, mother of the current owner (Sara space). In addition, your hosts will offer you various cultural activities related to Nabeul and its region: distillation of flowers, ceramic painting workshops, screenings of documentary films on Nabeul and its region… Finally, for customers who wish, the house can make table d’hôtes by offering you delicious menus based on Tunisian specialties and Nabeul in particular. To sum up, Dar Gaïed is really a very high level address for an incredible value for money.
