Excursion to discover the “pearl of the Sahel”
Departure from your hotel, for a half-day devoted to the discovery of the architectural, cultural and historical richness of the city of Sousse. You will start with a visit to the archaeological museum, installed since 1951, and housed in the walls of an old Arab lighthouse dating from 853. It contains the second most beautiful collection of Roman mosaics in Tunisia, after that of the Bardo museum in Tunis.
Your excursion continues with the visit of the Kasbah (citadel of the governor of the city) located in the upper part of the medina. It offers a magnificent panorama of the medina and the port. Today only the oldest part remains in the Khalef Tower.
The ramparts, also built in the 5th century, integrate the Kasbah on the west side and unfold all around the medina.
Through the narrow streets of the medina, you will descend between shops and stalls to the Ribat.
The Ribat of Sousse is a fortress made up of two levels which open onto a courtyard entirely lined with arcaded porticoes. Originally, the building had a defensive role, the high watchtower of which allowed communication with the other ribats on the coast.
